Taking responsibility

When the Opländer founding family established the Wilo-Foundation in 2011, it significantly stepped up its social engagement and firmly enshrined the principle of social responsibility in the foundation charter. Social engagement will thus always remain an integral part of the family foundation’s work and vision. Since the founding family has close ties with its home town of Dortmund and the people living there, the foundation’s social engagement activities focus on the Dortmund region. In addition, the foundation supports international projects, primarily in locations where Wilo operates.

Kinakoni - smart solutions for a better future

A pilot project in the Kenyan village of Kinakoni investigated the causes of hunger – and developed solutions together with founders from Nairobi’s young start-up scene.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Founding family and succession

The Wilo Group, now in its fifth generation, has always been working toward one objective: making people’s lives easier, everywhere. This mission is deeply rooted in the tradition of the Opländer family of entrepreneurs and is now being continued by Oliver Hermes as CEO of the Wilo Group.

Our history

Our funding areas

The foundation wants to give back to society and focuses its support on projects in the areas of science, education & welfare, culture and sport. In line with its funding motto “empowering young people” the foundation prioritises young people and key issues of the future: climate action, clean water, technology and digitalisation, future skills and (social) entrepreneurship. In terms of the geographical scope of its work, the Wilo-Foundation supports projects worldwide, primarily in locations where the Wilo Group operates.
