India: Covid-19 emergency relief

COVID Care Centres in Pune supported by the Wilo-Foundation.

The COVID-19 virus is still having a huge impact on social life around the world. Currently, India is particularly affected. The number of COVID-19 infections has skyrocketed, plunging the country into a state of emergency. It is the fragile health care infrastructure, in particular, that makes it difficult to treat COVID-19 patients and to curb the spread of the virus.

Therefore, the Wilo-Foundation is donating 10,000 euros to support the two COVID Care Centres set up by Habitat for Humanity Germany in Pune, where one of Wilo’s two main production sites in India is located. These COVID Care Centres, designed for the treatment of patients with mild and moderate symptoms, were set up in vacant buildings of healthcare or government institutions. The two centres in Pune have a capacity of 100 beds. The donation will be used to purchase and provide oxygen systems, drinking water, hygiene items and personal protective equipment for medical staff working at the Centres in Pune.

Such Centres have been set up in eight cities across India, providing care for some 2,000 COVID-19 patients. Last year, the Wilo-Foundation provided support to another COVID-19 relief project in India. Under the project, Habitat for Humanity distributed hygiene kits to at-risk groups and families in the Indian state of Maharashtra, including in the city of Pune.
