Maker Spaces for Cedarburg’s School District

Initiative for the technical equipment of schools funded by the Wilo-Foundation.

The Wilo-Foundation has been supporting the Cedarburg Education Foundation's STEAM initiative in Cedarburg (USA) since 2019. STEAM is an English abbreviation for the fields of science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics.

For a period of four years, the Wilo-Foundation will support the Cedarburg School District through its Cedarburg Education Foundation with a total amount of over $100,000 USD. The STEAM initiative aims to encourage children and young people from kindergarten to high school to ask questions in the areas mentioned, to work in a team and to find solutions together.

As part of the program, and to further strengthen the STEAM initiative, so-called Maker Spaces are currently being developed and set up in the five participating schools. These Maker Spaces offer space for innovative thinking: teachers and students can design and implement projects together there. Depending on the grade, the learning experiences become increasingly complex. In the 4th and 5th grades, the students work with the so-called Rokenbok construction systems; in grades 6 to 12 they take part in the “Lead the Way” construction courses. For students in grades 6 to 12, courses in robotics and advanced manufacturing and construction methods are also offered.
