Wilo presents Water Excellence Awards

Enactus student teams from India, Kenya and Mexico awarded.

Enactus is a project idea competition on social entrepreneurship embedded in a learning platform. The aim is to inspire students to improve the world sustainably through entrepreneurial action. In 37 countries, more than 75,000 students at 1,700 universities are involved in Enactus, and 550 companies and also foundations support the organization to improve people's living conditions. Evi Hoch from the Wilo-Foundation summarizes the commitment as follows: "Like last year, we supported the competition format "1Race4Oceans" as part of the Enactus World Cup, which is all about water. In addition, we are again a sponsor of Enactus in Germany and India. Next year, we expect our focus at Enactus to be geographically on Africa and in terms of content even more on the topic of water in line with the SD6 sustainability goal, Clean Water & Sanitation."

During the competition week from October 14 to 21, student teams met - to network with experts from business and academia and with each other. They prepared and submitted their projects weeks in advance in project profiles, presentations and videos, which were then reviewed in front of an international jury. Afterwards, there is the possibility that award winners will be among those whose projects may receive further funding.

Once again, the Wilo-Foundation was able to win Wilo board member Dr. Patrick Niehr as keynote speaker at the Enactus World Cup on October 21. In his digital contribution, he emphasized the special importance of water as a resource for all areas of life, paid tribute to the diverse range of projects and achievements of the global student teams, and also outlined the key sustainability activities of the Wilo Group.

Due to its specialist water expertise, Wilo this year presented the three best Enactus student teams with their own Wilo Excellence Award. All three winning teams will receive technical and professional support from Wilo to advance and expand their project. For the winning team from India there is also the opportunity to take advantage of a plant tour and a personal technical exchange with Wilo experts on site. Dr. Dirk Wittenberg, Senior Vice President for Water Treatment at Wilo, presented the award to the following three project teams during the digital global "1Race4Oceans" event:

  1. Project Sivaar from India: Project Sivaar combats ocean acidification, marine habitat loss, and climate change through the creation of sustainable and innovative marine farms and seaweed cultivation, while producing micro-social entrepreneurs from underprivileged communities in Goa.
  2. Project Tize from Mexico: The team has developed a product that eliminates all microorganisms present in the toilet water. After flushing, Tize works with the remaining water in the sewage system and specifically compensates for the negative effects of the detergents used daily at home.
  3. Project Smart Recycling Bin from Kenya: The Smart Recycling Bin is transforming waste collection and management in Kenya and around the world by using artificial intelligence and low power wide area networks to recognize the type of waste disposed of and reward consumers with redeemable points.
