Myanmar: WASH emergency response in earthquake region

Wilo-Foundation supports emergency response for households in southern Shan State.

On 28 March 2025, central Myanmar was hit by powerful earthquakes, devastating southern Shan State. The earthquakes caused widespread destruction of homes and severe damage to the infrastructure and water supply.

The Wilo-Foundation is therefore supporting the emergency response efforts of local partners of the humanitarian organisation arche noVa – Initiative für Menschen in Not e.V. (Dresden, Germany) in order to assist the most affected households in six villages in southern Shan State and provide essential WASH services, emergency shelter, hygiene articles and food in the aftermath of the earthquake.

Evi Hoch, member of the Executive Board of the Wilo-Foundation, explains: “We are all shocked and saddened by the disastrous living conditions that many people in Myanmar are facing. That is why, as part of our global funding for WASH initiatives, we are making a donation for WASH emergency support. This also reflects our very close ties with the region of Southeast Asia, where many employees of the Wilo Group live and work.”

The emergency response aims to mitigate acute health risks caused by the breakdown of the drinking water supply and sanitation infrastructure, and to stabilise the living conditions of the affected families. The project targets 1,604 households with a total of 7,923 people who have been directly affected by the earthquakes.
