Dortmund Foundations Day

Community engagement of foundations in Dortmund and the Dortmund region plays a crucial role and builds a strong community spirit. More than 150 foundations are based in the Dortmund region, with over 120 foundations being headquartered in the city of Dortmund itself – and the number keeps rising.

Countless people and foundations in Dortmund work for others, support ideas and carry out projects, in different ways and with great commitment. They assume social responsibility, work for the common good and, through their initiative, promote the development of Dortmund and the surrounding area. Building networks between these individuals and foundations and enabling them to exchange ideas and experiences is the underlying idea of the Dortmund Foundations Day, which was launched by the city of Dortmund in 2016 and is supported, among others, by the Wilo-Foundation as a private sponsor. The event provides a forum for urban society to discuss and develop effective approaches and solutions for tackling social challenges. At the same time, the Dortmund Foundations Day provides a space for interested individuals to learn more about the foundations and their work. The Dortmund Foundations Day generally takes place once per year, providing a festive setting for presenting the “Dortmund promotional award for foundations”. The award is supported by the city of Dortmund and other sponsors, including by the Wilo-Foundation. It recognises the outstanding achievements of foundations in Dortmund and supports exceptional citizens’ initiatives. Other formats include roundtable discussions or project visits as part of the Stiftungen vor Ort (“Foundations on the ground”) programme.

Our funding partner

The Dortmund Foundations Day is an initiative launched by the city of Dortmund. Its aim is to build and strengthen networks between sponsors and those who are looking for funding, and also between different foundations. Last but not least, the Foundations Day also enhances the visibility of foundations in the general public.
