Clean water for a healthy life in dignity

For the approximately 5,000 inhabitants of the village of Klologo, access to clean drinking water was an unattainable dream for a long time. But this has changed now, thanks to a solar-powered well and a piping system.

Das Centre de Santé (health centre) in Klologo was established by the NGO “Médecins d’Afrique”, which is also managing it. However, the building had no water connection and had to get its water from a draw well which was mainy using surface water and was therefore contaminated.

With financial support from the Wilo-Foundation and other donors, the third well, which is serving the health centre, was inaugurated in 2022. Now the remaining three village districts with their approximately 5,000 inhabitants also have access to clean water.

Back in 2020, the first two wells were inaugurated and have been supplying water for the inhabitants of three village districts ever since. This was made possible by the association Kekeli Togo e.V. based in Hof, Germany, thanks to many donations and a solar-powered pump donated by the Wilo Group.

With the newly inaugurated third well at the health centre, in combination with the piping system that was set up by the villagers themselves, the village now has 23 water points, including at the school in the village centre. The structure of the elevated water tank of the third well with a storage capacity of 10,000 litres was also built by members of the community.

Our funding partner

Kekeli Togo e.V., Hof, is a non-profit association funded and managed by private individuals and, thanks to donations, realises projects in Klologo, about three hours north of Togo’s capital Lomé. Its projects focus on reducing poverty and improving people’s health by giving them access to clean water, hygiene and sanitation (WASH). Moreover, the association works to improve children’s wellbeing and education by expanding child care centres and collecting teaching materials and school supplies.
