Since 2002, the choirs of the CHORAKADEMIE am Konzerthaus Dortmund e.V. – which calls itself Europe’s largest singing school – have been touring around the world, for instance to Poland, Croatia, Italy, China, France, Austria, Portugal and the USA. Concert tours to Beijing, Boston and Fátima have even led to long-term partnerships with local children’s and youth choirs, and the young singers made new friends.

The Dortmund-based Choral Academy seeks to develop the artistic abilities of the choir singers but also to enhance their social skills. Leisure time activities and vacation projects have proved to be effective for building the team spirit within the Academy, as have regular international exchange projects and international concert tours.

The Wilo-Foundation has provided financial support for several concert tours. For the opera children’s choir: 2014 Croatia, 2015  “Singspiel” (children’s opera) The Magic Word, 2016 Portugal, 2017 Austria, 2018 Croatia, 2019 South  Korea.
For the youth concert choir and youth girls’ choir: 2014 Tuscany, 2015 Netherlands, 2016 Ireland, 2017 United States, 2018 United Kingdom and the Netherlands. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the foundation made available additional funding for the virtual choir project “One call away”.

The support provided by the Wilo-Foundation was necessary to reduce the financial burden on parents and to ensure that as many young children as possible could participate in these tours.
