Research travel guide for Europe

The Science Guide is based at the Chair of Science Journalism at TU Dortmund University. Students from Germany and France collect research stories from all over Europe – on their investigations with scientists from the European continent and at European research conferences.

With the aim of contributing to an international exchange of information via science journalism, the Wilo-Foundation provided financial support for more than ten years for the annual German-French seminar hosted by the Dortmund Chair of Science Journalism in association with Strasburg University and University of Burgundy in Dijon. During the first years, up until 2017, the seminar on science journalism took place once every year, its venue alternating between France and Germany.

A research guidebook – including both German and French perspectives

In 2020, the German-French seminars were developed further and a new component added: conference reporting. Today, these seminars are held every two years. Students from Dortmund and from the universities of Strasburg and Dijon reported for the Science Guide on the EuroScience Open Forum (ESOF) in Leiden, Netherlands, in 2022 and on the European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly, in Vienna, Austria.  The website www.science-guide.eu is a bilingual “travel guide” for the European science landscape, created by young journalists from France and Germany. Another aim of the collaborative initiative is to deepen mutual understanding of the respective other culture in science and journalism.
