Architects, civil engineers and engineers in technical building equipment and facility management have a shared responsibility for designing and building a liveable environment. Together with facility management engineers, they are responsible for ensuring resource-saving design and installation and low-cost operation of building facilities and equipment throughout their entire lifecycle.

At the same time, they are faced with diverse challenges to achieve sustainable efficiency.  In the period 2015 to 2023, the Wilo-Foundation provided financial assistance for the implementation of the VDI “Integral Planning” Competition, offered in the winter semester each year.  The contest gives students an opportunity to prove their skills in a project that they present to a jury of experts.  The aim is to encourage students to focus on the aspect of integral planning while still being at university, with all engineers that are involved in the construction working on a joint project. It is purely a contest for ideas. The total funding for prizes and recognitions is 5,000 euros. In addition, the winners receive prizes in kind.

The three top-performing teams have an opportunity to present their work to the network of the VDI Society for Civil Engineering and Building Services and engage with high-ranking industry representatives.

Our funding partner

The Society for Civil Engineering and Building Services (Gesellschaft Bauen und Gebäudetechnik, VDI-GBG) is part of the Association of German Engineers (Verein Deutscher Ingenieure e.V. (VDI), Düsseldorf. It provides important stimuli for new technologies and technical solutions for a better quality of life, a better environment and more prosperity. As the largest technical-scientific association in Germany, and the voice of engineers and technology experts, it actively shapes the future. It helps to create networks between architects, civil engineers and engineers in technical building equipment and facility management.

UN Sustainable Development Goals

The UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) forms the global framework for action for socially, economically and ecologically sustainable development. Our funding commitment also supports these sustainability goals. With this project, we are making a contribution to achieving the following SDGs:
