"Jugend forscht" is Germany’s best known and most successful STEM contest for youth in Europe. Its network pools resources and expertise from schools, business, science and politics for the comprehensive support of young STEM talents. It promotes the concept of research-based, creative learning.

In line with its mission to promote young talents and STEM subjects, the Wilo-Foundation has been supporting the Jugend forscht contest in the Dortmund region as a sponsor since 2019, in collaboration with WILO SE and the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (DASA). The regional contest, including an exhibition and award ceremony, takes place in February of each year. Jugend forscht is designed to encourage and promote young talents in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). It seeks to inspire youth and children from grade 4 onwards to explore STEM subjects in greater depth and enable them to apply their talents in this field.

During the annual contests at different (regional, state and national) levels, young researchers present their projects, which they have chosen and designed themselves. The works are then evaluated by juries of experts from academia and schools. At the final award ceremony, the winning researchers receive prizes in cash and in kind. In Dortmund, the award ceremony takes place on the premises of the DASA, Germany’s largest exhibition on the world of work.
