Technology fund for technical education in schools

General technical education ideally starts at a young age. Children usually discover their passion for technical subjects at school, which also influences their career choice later in life.

The aim of the "VDI-Technikfonds" (VDI Technology Fund) is to promote general technical education in Germany and to support young talents in this field. Across Germany, schools and education initiatives that focus on general technical education can submit funding applications for their projects to the VDI Technology Fund.

The initiatives are designed to support young people interested in a scientific or technical profession, and also help to build a society where people have good basic knowledge on technical issues and can express informed opinions.  For schools, the maximum funding amount is 3,000 euros, which they can use to make technical teaching and experimental activities more lively and interesting. The same amount is available for education initiatives and extracurricular learning institutions.

The Wilo-Foundation (here: as a trustee of the WILO-Stiftung) was one of the supporters that provided funding, over a period of three years, to the VDI Technology Fund of the Association of German Engineers (Verband Deutscher Ingenieure e.V. – VDI) based in Düsseldorf.

Our funding partner

With about 130,000 members, the VDI-Technikfonds e.V., Düsseldorf,  is Germany’s largest technical-scientific network. As the voice of engineers and technology, the network actively shapes the future. Every year, more than 10,000 honorary experts develop the latest insights to promote Germany as a hub for technology. The VDI, as the third largest technical standardisation body in Germany, is an important partner for German businesses and academia.

Development Goals

The UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) forms the global framework for action for socially, economically and ecologically sustainable development. Our funding commitment also supports these sustainability goals. With this project, we are making a contribution to achieving the following SDGs:
